Description
Practice calculating volume and surface area with this hands-on nets activity! Students will create a 3D shape from one of 8 nets, and then measure and calculate the volume and surface area. The included worksheet guides students through the calculations.
Your students will gain hands-on experience identifying 3D shapes, folding nets, and calculating volume and surface area. Each net has a unique geometric pattern for students to color.
Before attempting this activity, students should be able to find the area of squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles. They’ll also need to know how to find the volume of prisms (rectangular and triangular), pyramids (square and triangular bases), and cylinders.
The cylinders can be easily removed if you haven’t covered these yet.
What’s Included:
- 8 Geometric Nets – including prisms, pyramids, and cylinders
- Volume and Surface Area Calculation Worksheet
What you’ll need:
- Rulers
- Glue/Tape
- Colored Pencils/Markers
