These personal finance lessons and activities will teach your students about renting vs owning, buying a house, and renting an apartment.

Keep students engaged with a variety of lessons and activities, including Google Slides presentations, guided notes, a house search activity, and an apartment search activity! The unit also includes a quiz to assess students’ knowledge.

This bundle includes:

  • Renting vs Owning – Students will learn about the pros and cons of multiple aspects of renting and owning, including the cost, responsibility, financial commitment, and more.
  • Buying a House – This financial literacy activity will teach students how to determine an affordable budget for a home mortgage, calculate down payments, and use a mortgage payment calculator to estimate monthly payments and interest. Also includes an engaging activity where students will draw a ‘buyer’ card and will find the buyer an affordable home online, calculate their payment, and more.
  • Finding an Apartment – Students will learn the actual costs of living independently by researching the cost of apartments in their town and another town of their choosing. Both a PDF paper version and a digital version on Google Sheets are included.
  • BONUS FILE – Housing Quiz – This quiz can be used after completing the lessons to assess students’ knowledge. A paper version and a Google Forms version are both included. Answer key and Bundle Pacing Guide are also included in the Bonus File.
