Description

Practice interpreting W-2s and tax tables with this 15 question scavenger hunt about federal income taxes! Students are provided a sample W-2 and a sample tax table to use as they answer the questions. Topics include: locating specific information on a W-2, tax-related vocabulary, calculating tax using tax tables, calculating taxable income, and more.

This scavenger hunt was updated in December 2024 to include 2024 tax tables and forms.

This is a DIGITAL Scavenger Hunt using Google Forms. Similar to traditional class scavenger hunts where students search around the classroom for their answer that will lead them to the next question – students’ answers will lead them to the next question on the Google Form. Students will not need to move around the room for this activity, so it is distance learning and social distancing friendly. Please see the preview for an example.

A Bundle of both Digital and Paper Versions of this activity is available here.

This activity is intended to be extra practice, and students should already be familiar with W-2s, tax tables, and the 1040 before completing this activity. If you’re looking for instructional materials that will teach students how to file their taxes, the paper version of this activity is also included as part of my full filing taxes instructional unit: Filing Federal Income Taxes Personal Finance Unit – Using W2s and Form 1040!
