These seven personal finance banking resources will provide your students with a foundational knowledge of banking and saving for their future. Topics include an introduction to banks, savings accounts, checking accounts, interest, setting savings goals, and more.
Your students will learn how banks function, what services they offer, how to manage their accounts, avoid fees, earn interest, and save for future goals.
Keep students engaged with a variety of lessons and activities, including Google Slides presentations, guided notes, station activities, self-checking practice, independent research activities, a bingo game, and more! The unit also includes a quiz to assess students’ knowledge.

This bundle includes:
- Intro to Banks – This easy prep personal finance lesson will teach students the basics of banking, including how banks work, types of banks, checking vs. savings accounts, common services offered, FDIC insurance, and more!
- Understanding Savings Accounts – This lesson will teach students everything they need to know about savings accounts, including their purpose, benefits, common types, fees, statements, and more. They’ll also answer questions about a realistic savings account statement and learn how to read the fine print with a savings account disclosure.
- Understanding Checking Accounts – These lessons will teach students everything they need to know about checking accounts, including their benefits, purpose, fees, writing checks, using a debit card, and more. They’ll also practice recording transactions using a transaction register and then reconciling their register with a realistic statement.
- Checking & Savings Accounts Activity Stations – These seven station activities will provide your students with checking and savings account skills practice. Students will practice writing checks, reading bank statements, understanding account disclosures, keeping transaction registers, reconciling accounts, and identifying transaction register errors.
- Understanding Bank Interest – These financial literacy banking lessons will teach students about the differences between simple interest and compound interest, as well as Annual Percentage Yield (APY). They’ll learn how interest can grow their savings and learn how to calculate and estimate interest using formulas.
- Setting Savings Goals – This lesson will teach students the importance of saving, emergency funds, and setting short, medium, and long-term savings goals. They’ll also learn to calculate the amount they’ll need to save each month to meet their goals.
- Choosing a Bank Independent Research Activity – This activity will give students experience researching banks and credit unions to help them decide which bank would be best for them. Students will practice financial decision-making skills as they learn to compare banks and accounts.
- BONUS FILE — Banking & Saving Quiz — This quiz can be used to assess students’ knowledge after completing the unit. A paper version and a Google Forms version are both included. The answer key and Bundle Pacing Guide are also included in the Bonus File.
The entire set of lessons and activities in this bundle will take approximately 15 to 17 one-hour class periods to complete.
