These easy prep, personal finance activities will teach students about the process of buying a car, including auto loans, car payments, auto insurance coverage, and choosing an insurance company.

Buying a Car Activity

Students will research multiple cars in their current city, calculate tax and license fees, and use an auto payment calculator to calculate possible monthly payments for each car.

Understanding Auto Insurance Lesson and Scavenger Hunt Activity

Students will learn about the different types of coverages on an auto insurance policy, how to read and interpret a declarations page, how insurance companies determine rates, and more.

The lesson includes Google Slides for easy prep and guided notes for students to use with the Google Slides. It also includes a 16-question scavenger hunt where students will answer questions about a realistic declarations page. A scavenger hunt recording sheet is also included.

Choosing an Auto Insurance Company

Students will independently research auto insurance companies online and will fill out a table comparing four insurance companies, including how to get a quote, types of insurance offered, discounts, and other services offered. The activity wraps up with a few questions asking students to give an opinion on which companies might meet their future needs.
