Need some fun practice with linear equations, plotting points, or geometric transformations?
I’ve admitted that I’ve never really loved doing holiday activities in my math class. I think this is because many activities I’ve used are more fluff than actual substance. It just seems like there’s never enough time, so it’s a little painful to spend time on activities that aren’t rigorous.
I’ve put together a few Halloween math activities that your students will enjoy! And the best part is that your students will practice some much needed skills while they’re at it.
Linear Equations ‘Painted’ Pumpkins
Your students will choose from 8 pumpkins and 8 pumpkin designs to create Halloween math art! Each design requires students to write equations of lines in slope intercept form when given a point and slope, two points, etc. They’ll graph their equations on a pumpkin to create a ‘painted’ pumpkin design! You can find this activity here!
Transformations Jack O’ Lanterns
Need a little practice with translations, rotations, and reflections? Students will choose one of 8 Jack O Lantern designs that will prompt them to graph figures, then transform them to create a mystery Jack O Lantern face! This activity is a favorite every year – students are always excited to see how their faces will turn out. You can find this activity here!
Coordinate Plane Jack O’ Lanterns
If your students aren’t quite ready for linear equations or transformations, this one is for you. This activity will provide practice for plotting points on the coordinate plane. They’ll roll a die to choose one of 6 possible eyes, noses, and mouths. With 6 pumpkins to choose from, this activity can produce over 1200 possible Jack O’ Lantern combinations! You can find this activity here!
