Description
Practice calculating totals, discounts, sales tax, and more with this engaging consumer math activity. Students will practice everyday consumer math skills and real-world applications of percents through ten ‘classroom thrift store’ stations.
How it works: You’ll choose ten items to make up your ‘classroom thrift store,’ and create price tags for them using the included editable price tags. You’ll create ten stations, and place one item and one of the ten question sheets at each station. Each station asks students to calculate the total price of the item after discounts, coupons, sales tax, card use fees, and more!
What’s included:
- 10 Editable Price Tags
- 10 Unique, Editable Question Sheets (1 for each station)
- 2 Editable Versions of a Recording Sheet, one blank and one with scaffolding for students who need more support
Topics include:
- Finding the subtotal when given a list of purchased items
- Calculating a discount, including dollar-off and percentage discounts
- Calculating the sales tax when given the sales tax rate
- Calculating a fee for using a credit or debit card
- Calculating the percent discount when given the original and sales price (the formula is given)
