The CKMath Filing Federal Income Taxes unit has been updated with 2024 tax forms! If you’ve previously purchased this unit, you can now access the latest version with the most up-to-date tax forms.

Here’s the good news – there were hardly any changes made to the tax forms this year (at least that affect this unit), so there won’t be any surprises when you teach the unit this year.

There were the usual updates – the standard deduction increased, and the tax tables changed slightly – but these changes occur every year. No changes were made to the Schedule A that affect this unit.

I’ve listed all the changes below, as well as how you can access your free unit update!

Changes to the Standard Deduction

The standard deduction amounts were increased in 2024. The standard deduction for single taxpayers is now $14,600, and $29,200 for married taxpayers filing jointly.

Tax Table Update

The tax rates for 2024 changed slightly due to inflation, which caused changes to the tax tables. The updated taxes unit uses the 2024 tax tables, which you can find here: 2024 Tax Tables

Other Changes

Changes to Diego’s Itemized Deduction: (Diego is the second sample taxpayer in the unit.) Diego’s real estate taxes were increased to $2,200. I wanted to be sure students had a chance to see an example of a taxpayer who qualifies for an itemized deduction. Due to the increase in standard deductions, Diego would no longer qualify for an itemized deduction without this change.

Lesson 3 Reading Tax Tables Google Slides: More slides have been added to the Google Slides to provide visuals that will make this lesson easier to teach. There were no changes to the student handout for this lesson other than updating the tax table to the 2024 version.

Study Guide and Quiz: In case you missed it – a study guide and quiz were added to the unit last year. The quiz is available as a printable PDF and a self-grading Google Form!

How to Access Your Update

You can download the updated unit from the site where you made your purchase.

  • TPT Purchases: Your update can be downloaded from your My Purchases page.
  • CKMath Website Purchases: Your update can be downloaded from your Account page.

This unit update is also part of the Understanding Personal Finance Curriculum. You can redownload the curriculum with the updated unit using either of the links above.
